The AP Language class taught at New Paltz High School has a goal of teaching it's students to write a variety of essays. The evidence essay has students draw on their own knowledge, while the synthesis essay makes students analyze and utilize specific information to prove a point. Oftentimes in either case a student is forced to pick a side an learn to defend their assertion. In doing this students must strive to be accurate, and where they are not, be convincing.
